Lower School Sports (i.e. Under 9 teams) start in Grade 4. Prior to G4, there are many clubs that provide opportunities to learn about new sports. If you are looking for other opportunities, here are our recommendations:
Gymnastics Energy is in St. Catharines. http://gymnastics.energy/ They offer beginner through high level competitive. Classes typically fill up right away. Tryouts for the competitive team are usually near the end of the school year for the following year. We've been very happy with the coaching and program (we're now in our 6th year at that gym) and two girls are on the competitive team and one takes private lessons with a friend. Private lessons are offered, subject to availability.
This year (fall 2024), Ridley offered after school clubs for power skating & hockey club. This was a great learning opportunity, which gave Brady the confidence and desire to try out for local teams. We learned about these area programs:
Boys and Girls: St. Catharines Minor Hockey https://cyominorhockey.com/
Girls Brock Badgers Junior: https://scfha.com/
House league and Rep starts in the fall
Rep tryouts are in the spring for the following year.
If you are new to hockey (l don't even understand all of the attire/gear, let alone proper tying of skates or taping of sticks), Aaron would be happy to provide a tutorial.
We typically aren't around in the summers, but we've heard about a few families play in local clubs such as Club Roma.
Swimming lessons in St. Catharines were one of the more challenging lessons to coordinate. Our experience was that sign up most swim lessons requires being online, and madly clicking when the schedule opens.

Brock University Swim Lessons. I believe they also have open swim time. During summer camps, our girls loved telling stories about jumping off of the platforms. During the winter months, our kids find this pool too cold. https://brocku.ca/recreation/aquatics/swim-lessons/
We also have taken: Ninja Warrior & dance classes. We also frequently hear about others taking marital arts programs. If there are any you recommend, we're happy to post here!
